Dear TUC Community:
In light of the recent tragic events, the Academic Leadership Team at Touro University California invites you to a virtual vigil mourning the death of George Floyd on Thursday, June 4th from Noon – 1:00 p.m. Like you, we are angry and hurt by this horrific death and the disregard for the life of another human being. This loss, like many other unfortunate deaths over these past few years, highlights the issue of police violence, the impact of racism within the United States, and challenges the notion that we live a post-racial and color-blind society. The events around the country also bring to light the importance of recognizing racism not only occurs in Minneapolis, but also can occur close to home in both Vallejo and within our own community.
Since we understand that many within the TUC family are feeling overwhelmed not only by the incidents over the last few days but also with the ongoing challenges associated with COVID-19, we call on the university and Vallejo communities to come together on June 4th in a show of solidarity and healing. We believe that the pain that we all are collectively experiencing reflects an opportunity for us to recommit ourselves to advancing the cause of social justice, promoting anti-racism, and fulfilling TUC’s legacy of inspirational teaching and scholarship, transformative leadership, and exemplary service.
Please join us for the virtual vigil on Thursday, June 4th from Noon – 1:00 p.m. by following the Zoom meeting instructions included below:
