Corpsemembers Create Habitat for Endangered Salmon

"I’m out in the middle of the woods doing stuff that most people don’t get to do, saving fish," shares Alexandra, highlighting the uniqueness of her experiences with the CCC. For her and her team, their days involve laborious yet rewarding tasks that directly contribute to the conservation of endangered Coho Salmon.

Venturing deep into the forests of Mendocino County, Alex's crew spends weeks camping and immersing themselves in the environment they aim to protect. Their vocabulary is adorned with terms like "grip," "slack," "choke," and "slings," each representing an essential aspect of their mission—installing thousand-pound logs strategically in local creeks and rivers to provide shelter and support for the threatened salmon.

"Sometimes it’s hard, but honestly, it’s really nice," expresses Alex, reflecting on her experience. The challenges encountered during their efforts are overshadowed by the realization of being an integral part of saving an endangered species.
